Ghosts art show progress... process.

The first mysterious illustration/painting (1 of 3). For the upcoming Ghosts art show.
Its been awhile since I've used tracing paper. But this was the way it panned out to compose it for Photoshop, especially when I scan it in the computer. To make life easier to edit this monster of a drawing. I joke because its basically the "real world" version of layers. It seems to look visually cluttered right now, but once I included color in the ghost "streams"... I hope it will all come together. I'll post the next step soon.

More to it then meets the glaze.
Raining heavily in Minnesota today. Steady oppressive rain, good stuff.

Trying out a "REAL" brush pen for the first time.

I don't know if I like it, a little too loose. I'll keep at it... everyone needs to bust out of their comfort zone once and while. I felt like a Japanese calligrapher... I was one with the Hulk.

ROCK MONSTER!

July Fighter Album Cover

I had a lot of fun at the photo shoot (even with the mosquitoes). Thanks to Jimmy for giving me the opportunity to design this album. Its not to often I get to illustrate a lighting bug.

If you are in the Minneapolis area go check out their CD release show on Saturday the 28th.

Cartoonist Conspiracy Jam!

Ridiculous Concept: Take two dozen cartoonists and 20 blank pages in random order. One person starts a panel, the next artist draws the next one, etc... craziness! I had gotten a speeding ticket on the way to the jam (40 mph in a 30 and 145 bucks poorer) and was in a funk afterward. But the crew at the Jam turned my dark cloud into a double rainbow! Some seriously talented people, makes me want to up my game. I may be hooked.

FYI & WIP

New blog started with my long time friend Josh, we hope to start a comic collective of some sort... who knows. But for now it will showcase our first comic.

http://slugwheel.blogspot.com/

Its still rough... but eventually I will make it all fancy and stuff.

Front and Back covers

I bet you've never seen ghosts play paper-rock-scissors. Poor Josh seems to have lost, best two out of three... right? Also I'm thinking I will stop using the blue pencil, its too waxy the ink seems to roll right off it. So conflicted because I like how it looks when I'm sketching.

Its a start. Josh and I in dreamland.

Two page spread, I still need to insert Josh being pulled by a thought bubble across the panels.

A loose idea I think I'll recompose into a larger image.

Working on some similar themed artwork

I'm trying to do a series of illustrations based off a similar theme. I've never attempted something like this, so we'll see.

A night time Teddy Bear

Progress report:
Still working on the comic book. I think its has to be the trickiest project I've worked on in a long time, so many restarts. I'll post the first page in a few days. Also I'm doing another band poster, I'm having a lot of fun with this one (monsters and rainclouds). I'll post that soon.

Cheers!

Haitian relief benefit concert illustration

A poster I'm designing for a benefit concert that my friend Jimmy is setting up. I wanted to symbolize the regrowth that will happen through the tragedy that was the earthquake.

Hello...

My web “presence” has been lacking as of late, but I’ll be back on it as of now. I’ve got a few things in the pipeline right now. I completed an art piece for the Minneapolis institute of Arts - Foot in the Door. Once every ten years, any artist from the Minnesota area can submit a 12x12 inch work of art.

If you are in the Minneapolis area this Thursday the 18th, I’d suggest you check it out. I had a lot of fun making a new piece for the show; it’s a multi-layered illustration. Sort of like when animation cells are stacked to create depth of field. I’ll have photos of it when I go to the show, so you all will know what the hell I’m talking about.

Also I’m ACTUALLY making a comic with my friend Josh, which he’ll be writing it. It’s a very daunting project. I have never done a comic over four pages (sad I know) and I’ve had a lot of false starts in my day. I’ve only been doing character sketches and a few thumbnail layouts for now. It’s a do or die mentality for me with this comic. I need to do this to prove to myself I can do a long form comic, I’m not getting any younger.

And on the professional side of my life. The project I’ve been working on the last year has been killed. It was a bummer, but it hasn’t affected me too badly. Now it’s literally back to the drawing board. Though I hate to admit the new concepts I’ve been drawing really drains me creatively outside of work. When I get home I just want to zone out and play the PS3. I shouldn’t complain, I do get paid for it… I wish I could show you all the drawings. But my company disclosure contract won’t allow it.

Whew… less typing… more drawings!
