Process

I start by designing the creature. 

I get a mental picture of what I want it to look like. 

Then I'm off to the races. I usually start with the head.

My pencils are really loose.

 I continue onward down the body. 

I'm using Microns to ink. 

My big secret is how I get my line quality is...

I double up on my inks. 

Now its time to scan, I do black and white 400dpi.

 Photoshop time!

I'm going for a cool color pallet. 

I flat out my color scheme.

 Add highlights and shadows.

Composite into the shot... some color grading, shadows on the ground. 

Added some breath steam to show how chilly the scene was.

Well It hasn't been a daily occurrence to draw in the journal. But I'm happy of what I've drawn, but I could get better. Taking a break for now. Working on an 18 page comic next week, so you'll all see that progress for now in the coming months on this blog. Cheers.

Pen case: R.I.P.

I've completely lost my pen collection case. I've looked everywhere the last three days.

The dearly departed: 12 Microns of various sizes, my Pentel pocket brush, two Rapidographs, some rare Japanese nibs, Copics and many more pen goodies (I won't bore you further).

I feel like I've lost a part of me. Luckily I can buy new ones, but the art history mojo that are laced on the old pens... I can never get back.
